My experience covers general chemicals, polymers, petrochemicals, refineries, nuclear waste and liquefied natural gas. I am interested in helping managers and engineers deal with safety studies and regulatory compliance for chemical companies, and also in helping non-chemical companies which use chemicals. I can offer straightforward chemical engineering design, and especially like the challenge of new and novel technologies. Whether your problems are to do with conventional technology or something unusual, you will find me enthusiastic, efficient and effective.

EXPERIENCE & CAREER

I started my career as a Student Engineer in the Ministry of Defence. My first experience of the importance of safety came about 800m from a nitro-glycerine plant when it exploded, leaving a very large hole where the plant had been!

From there I joined ICI and worked for 21 years as a process engineer, plant engineer, plant manager, research engineer, development engineer, and finally as an engineering consultant. I worked in a large variety of plants and businesses, from sulphuric acid and inks, to Perspex and adhesives, from Runcorn to Kenya, leading teams from a few to 35. ICI was a fantastic company to work for, and let me learn and develop best practice in conventional chemical engineering and plant optimisation, and the opportunity to work on novel and unconventional technologies.

With ICI breaking up, I left in 1998 and joined BNFL. I had 3 years working on a nuclear clean-up project, which was interesting but slow. I focussed on hydrogen explosion safety and Operational Research.

An interesting opportunity made me join Stopford Projects for 4 years working on various projects including analysis of many large pipes for water hammer, DSEAR and SIL assessments.

In 2006 I started CEDCS Ltd and have now worked for over 40 clients on projects from 5 days to 5 months. My regular clients always appreciate my thorough and efficient approach to their requirements, and use of conventional and innovative methods to meet their needs. Life as a self-employed consultant is fast, fun and always challenging!
