EXPERIENCE
  • Graduated with an Honours Degree in Physical Chemistry from Liverpool University.  Obtained a PhD Degree from the same University by investigating the surface and colloid chemistry and crystal growth of different polymorphs of CaCO3.
  • Research and production of inorganic fertilizers.
  • At the Colloid Science Group of ICI Corporate Laboratory worked on a variety of topics including, colloid chemistry of polyelectrolytes, pigment dispersion in non aqueous media and the surface and colloid chemistry of bacteria.
  • ICI PVC Business (now Ineos Vinyls), research into the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride.  Patented a new antifoam and a radically new process for controlling grain porosity. Three years as Plant Technical Manager.  Published a number of articles and papers.
  • ICI, Zeneca and finally AstraZeneca, Technical Manager for NeoResins VCM, VdC and acrylate emulsion copolymers used in anticorrosive paints and barrier coating applications.  Responsibilities included the control of production and product quality, customer support, the development of new products and the development of new polymerization process.  Product Steward and member of APME PVdC Sub-Committee.  Responsible for the transfer of the polymerisation processes to Japan and the USA.
  • Chemicals North West, building links between the UK Chemical Industry and Universities.  Instrumental in obtaining a £4.25m UK Government Grant  to establish an organic materials/polymer innovation centre in North West England
  • Sabic R&T, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Research Advisor developing the companies emulsion and suspension polymerisation and PVC Paste Plastisol Technology.
